ABOUT
Welcome to America’s Nomad. My name is Erik, I am the titular nomad, and I’m here to tell you a little bit about myself and journey thus far. A brief history of time to set the stage for all my new friends joining me on this journey. I first set out on the American roads when I was in a band in Michigan in the early 2000s. We played shows throughout the Midwest in venues ranging from dive bars to full sized theaters.
In 2005, I drove the entirety of I-80 for a wedding in New York and for a job with a guitar company in California. It was on that trip where I first experienced the mountain west and have been looking forward to returning to it ever since. The journey back there would turn out to be that would take two decades to complete, though.
In the interim, I spent nearly a decade in NYC, playing in another band and gigging around the East Coast. I left NY in 2015 and ended up moving to Florida, where I eventually lived on a sailboat for a few years before buying my first RV and hitting the road in 2021. Between 2021 and 2023 I traveled throughout the South East, spending a lot of time in Biloxi, Mississippi, a place still dear to my heart. I found myself in Oklahoma City by happenstance, and after a couple of years in OKC I am ready to resume my journey in March 2025.
On this journey, I intend to explore all manners of off the beaten path locations, towns, roadside dinners and whatever else I come across. There will be blog posts, videos, a podcast with some friends of mine from the time of covid where we will discuss the state of the American Dream, and even some new songs inspired by who and what I encounter.
I hope you’ll take this journey with me. Provide me with interesting places to see and maybe even join us on the podcast occasionally.
See you on the road
